Peer Review Process

SETARA: Jurnal Ilmu Hukum applies a double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, relevance, and academic integrity of all submitted manuscripts. The identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential during the review process.

Every manuscript submitted to the journal is first examined by the editorial team to assess its conformity with the journal’s focus and scope, author guidelines, manuscript structure, citation style, originality, and ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet the basic editorial requirements may be returned to the author or rejected before peer review.

Review Stages

  1. Initial editorial screening: The editor checks the suitability of the manuscript with the journal’s focus and scope, submission requirements, plagiarism similarity, and overall academic quality.
  2. Reviewer assignment: Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the field of legal studies.
  3. Peer review evaluation: Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on originality, clarity of legal issues, theoretical and methodological soundness, quality of analysis, use of references, contribution to legal scholarship, and compliance with ethical standards.
  4. Editorial decision: Based on reviewers’ recommendations, the editor makes the final decision regarding acceptance, revision, resubmission, or rejection.
  5. Revision and verification: Authors are required to revise their manuscripts according to reviewers’ comments. The revised manuscript may be re-evaluated by the editor or reviewers when necessary.

Review Criteria

Reviewers are asked to assess manuscripts according to the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the focus and scope of the journal;
  • Originality and contribution to legal scholarship;
  • Clarity of research problem, argument, and legal analysis;
  • Appropriateness of research method or legal reasoning;
  • Accuracy and relevance of references;
  • Consistency of structure, language, and citation style;
  • Compliance with publication ethics and academic integrity.

Editorial Decisions

The possible editorial decisions are:

  • Accept Submission;
  • Revisions Required;
  • Resubmit for Review;
  • Decline Submission.

Review Timeline

The peer review process normally takes approximately 2 to 4 weeks after the manuscript passes the initial editorial screening. The overall editorial decision may take longer depending on reviewer availability, the quality of the manuscript, and the extent of revisions required.

Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest

All manuscripts received for review are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not disclose, discuss, or use any part of the manuscript for personal advantage. Reviewers are also required to declare any potential conflict of interest and decline the review invitation when such conflict exists.

Final Decision

The final decision on manuscript publication is made by the editor based on reviewers’ recommendations, the relevance of the manuscript to the journal, compliance with editorial policies, and the author’s response to revision requests.
